Exploring Japan: VLOG.

I just got back from Japan, and it was incredible! It’s so totally different than anywhere I’ve ever been before, and I loved it.

I spent some time in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Hakone and went skiing in Niseko – the entire trip was a blast!

The trip highlights?

Skiing in Niseko

I’m Canadian, but living in Australia means that I haven’t seen snow in six years! We spent a few days on Hokkaido Island, skiing in Niseko, a quant little town a couple hours from Sapporo. Seeing snow again was incredible; it felt so weird, but so normal, all at the same time! We had a total blast skiing, and I loved soaking in the onsen afterwards.

Exploring Tokyo

Tokyo sure is one crazy city. It’s so busy, but so efficient that somehow it doesn’t seem all that chaotic. There are so many cool places to explore and some many crazy restaurants to eat at – it’s amazing.

Checking out Osaka and Kyoto

Both cities are amazing. The food and the culture is just so good, and I had such a great time exploring and learning about these cities.

The Shinkansen

The Shinkansen (bullet train) is sooooo cool! One zoomed by me on a platform when I wasn’t expecting it; it was going SO fast! We took the Shinkansen twice, once from Osaka to Hakone, and again from Hakone to Tokyo. The train reminds me of an airplane, except with bigger seats and much more legroom! It goes up to 300km and hour (fast, right?!), but it’s super smooth ride.

Exploring Japan: Video

I’ll write a handful of articles about my experiences, but in the meantime, check out the video of the trip!

6 years is a long time without snow, I guess you forgot what cold feet and fingers felt like too! You got some serious snow in the end and the night skiing looks fun too. That’s a cool reflection photograph you took by the way. That restaurant was amazing, no need for a waitress! It’s great you got a little of the bullet train in there, it did look fast.

I loved Japan so much! My favorites were Kyoto and Tokyo, but also loved riding the bullet train. I never would’ve thought you could go skiing in Japan. Looks like so much fun!

Wonderful tips on exploring Tokyo. How much time do you think is sufficient to cover the places in and around Tokyo extensively – at least the major ones?

I went for two weeks, but you could absolutely go for wayyyyyyy longer!

I have to say that Japan has never been on my list of places to visit. But I am opening up to the idea more and more with everyone’s unique posts.

I was the exact same…little interest in going, but it was high on my husband’s bucket list. Turns out, it’s pretty amazing!

I really want to go to Japan. Osaka and Kyoto look like great places to see. I will pin this for later reference for when I have booked my trip to Japan. Thanks for sharing

You had an amazing trip and did so much in two weeks. I would love to visit Japan some day because it looks so exotic and different. The bullet train reminds me of the one I sat on in China.

It was a great two weeks! That’s cool that China has a similar train!

Hello from another Canadian! I’m from BC and I gotta say, while we have some pretty rad slopes here I’d love to ride down Niseko. One of my best friends is Japanese and he goes every season, and loves it! I took my hubby to Kansai Japan last spring and he LOVED it, especially the food. I think we’ll be going back again very soon 🙂

Ahh so fun! I haven’t skied the west coast yet (basically I’m the WORST Canadian EVER!), but I definitely will over the next year or two!

I loved Japan when I visited there. I went in October so there was no snow. It is such a beautiful country and I loved Kyoto and Osaka, great places. I got the fast trains around the country and they are so good, my friend even left her ipad on the train and managed to get it back!! That would just not happen in the UK!!

The culture in Japan is so great! We left a camera bag at a restaurant in Tokyo and were able to get it back a week later when we were next in Tokyo!
