Who is Jet Set Brunette?
Hi! I’m Courtney Jones, a twenty-something (almost thirty-something, but who’s counting) Canadian who absolutely loves the world. My (now) husband and I decided in 2011 that we wanted to take the trip of a lifetime, a year backpacking across Australia! I left my job in financial services, bought a backpack and proceeded to nearly have a meltdown when I realised how little could actually fit into a bag. In retrospect, I didn’t need half of what I was desperately trying to squeeze in, but some things you learn the hard way, amiright?!
My nomad days lasted about six months before I realised that I’m a ‘I want it all’ kind of gal. While I am still obsessed with travel to this day, I also wanted to prove I could make it in the corporate world, have a nice apartment, buy nice things, and build myself up financial to start a family (…eventually! Don’t get too excited, mom and dad!) As you guys have probably noticed reading this, I have tendencies normally associated with an overachiever paired with an extreme case of FOMO.
Aside from the blog?
I’m a summer-girl and a water-baby at heart, so I love EVERYTHING to do with being around a pool or the ocean. I also love wine, and little makes me happier than when a sommelier says ‘this is a nice, easy, mid-week wine’, making it TOTALLY acceptable to have a glass of pinot on a Tuesday: ‘the sommelier said it was a mid-week wine, okay?!’
I love bright colours and am annoyingly attracted to sparkly things (I’m basically like a bird to anything shiny). I adore high heels, and have no problem hobbling around like a baby deer in order to wear gorgeous stilettos. I also love blasting Tay-Swift and the Bebes, preferrably while dancing around like a crazy person. #sorrynotsorry
I have zero sense of direction (not a great attribute for a traveller), and have actually gotten lost in the population 4,000 town I grew up in. WHILE I STILL LIVED THERE.
I’m a hopeless driver, and have a tendency to get into minor fender benders on Christmas Eve. In high school, my parents stopped letting me drive on December 24th until I bought my own car.
Although I currently live in Sydney, I’m originally from a small town on the east coast of Canada, Hampton, New Brunswick. I grew up in an amazing family, and am lucky enough to have some pretty great friends scattered across the globe.
Basically, I’m just a small town girl trying to escape the ordinary.
